Welcome back to school.
This new academic year, KS1 students ( year 1 and year 2) will be introduced to French in preparation for KS2. The purpose of French lessons at KS1 is to provide an enjoyable, fun and memorable experience . For that reason, the lessons will be short but sweet, utilizing the Languagenut programme which is designed to teach French to students of a younger age who have no previous knowledge of French.
Regarding KS 2 ( from year 3 to year 6 ) as it was a real success last year, this year again, your child will be learning French using the ‘flipped classroom’ model. In brief, this is a pedagogy that encourages independent learning at home before the lesson through 21st century technologies, e.g. watching video clips prepared by the teacher and various other online resources. This new knowledge is then applied back in the classroom where we will focus on these particular skills:
Collaboration, Creativity , Communication and Developing critical thinking.
Whether your child is new to our school or whether your child has learnt French here before, know that crucial components of learning French here at JPS are that your child enjoys their learning, that it’s challenging and that they make significant progress.
How can you help? Encourage your child to watch the videos posted on the weeblyi in the tab above " Your flip learning videos" as many times as they need. This will then build their confidence for when they approach their learning in class.
Merci
The French team : Izza Binnie, Diane Marchbank, Marie-Helene Villeneuve
